Easy to Use Throughout the Year
These print-and-go pages are useful for seasonal math lessons, short time-fillers, early finisher activities, homework, small-group practice, and homeschool learning. Use them with adult guidance or independently as students become familiar with the directions.
Children practice numeral formation, counting objects one at a time, answering “How many?”, and recording a quantity with a written number.
Create a Monthly Record of Student Growth
Save each completed page in a student folder to build a collection of work samples across the year. Compare earlier and later pages to notice changes in number formation, counting accuracy, and independence.
When I taught preschool, I collected this type of activity in a folder for each student. At parent-teacher conferences, the monthly samples helped me show families how much their child’s number writing and counting had grown throughout the school year. It acted as a sample of student work that I could brag about and it really helped in these meetings!
For useful comparisons, date each page and briefly note any help the student received.
Supports Early Math Learning Goals
U.S. preschool and pre-k expectations vary by state and program, but commonly emphasize counting, connecting numbers with quantities, recognizing numerals, and beginning number writing. This resource provides practice connected to:
Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, P-MATH 3: Connecting counting with quantities through one-to-one counting and identifying how many objects are in a group.
Head Start P-MATH 5: Connecting written numerals with quantities and beginning to write numbers.
Kindergarten Common Core K.CC.A.3: Building toward writing numerals and representing quantities with written numbers. Tracing 0–9 supports part of this standard, which extends to 20.
Kindergarten Common Core K.CC.B.4: Practicing the relationship between counting and quantity.
Kindergarten Common Core K.CC.B.5: Practicing counting to answer “How many?” questions.
Use these worksheets alongside hands-on counting activities and teacher observation to support developing skills. They provide practice and work samples rather than a complete assessment of every standard.
A simple seasonal math routine—and a meaningful way to celebrate progress from month to month!
